The Russian foreign ministry has come out in support of Sistema Shyam TeleServices Ltd (SSTL), a subsidiary of Russia’s Sistema, and 17.4% owned by the Russian Government, after it had its 2G operating licences revoked earlier this month by India’s Supreme Court. According to local news outlets, the foreign ministry criticised Indian authorities for penalising SSTL for ‘the fact that the licence-issuing procedures established by the Indian telecom authorities were at variance with the country's legislation’. SSTL and Sistema are preparing a legal challenge to the court’s decision.
