Honduras’ newspaper La Prensa writes that all mobile users in the country must register their mobile cell phone numbers by 14 May, or risk having their connection terminated from 19 May. The paper quotes the president of the National Telecommunications Commission (Conatel), Miguel Velez, as saying that the edict is being carried out under Decree 243-20011, which also contains the wiretapping law, known as the ‘law of listeners’. Velez’ announcement was made to a full hearing of Congress and is aimed to reduce the incidence of mobile phones being used for crime in the country.
