AlaskaComm, GCI announce wireless pact in a bid to fend off Verizon

Alaska Communications (AlaskaComm) and General Communications Inc (GCI) have announced plans to pool their respective wireless resources into a new company, called Alaska Wireless Network (AWN), which will jointly manage the two networks to deliver a state-wide service to Alaskan subscribers. However, the duo will continue to market and sell services independently to their respective retail bases. As part of the deal, GCI will purchase USD100 million of wireless assets from AlaskaComm and contribute them to AWN
