U-Com Burundi secures USD25m loan for network expansion

U-Com Burundi, formerly Telecel-Burundi but now offering services under the brand name leo, has secured a USD25 million loan from the private lending arm of the World Bank, the International Finance Corporation (IFC), to expand its network coverage in the country. The IFC’s country manager, Aida Kimemia, confirmed the loan yesterday saying that it would ‘help the company expand into rural and remote areas of Burundi, where mobile phone service is not available’
