Antel teams up with Alca-Lu to launch LTE network

Uruguay’s state-owned incumbent telecoms operator Antel has partnered with Alcatel-Lucent to launch a Long Term Evolution (LTE) mobile broadband network, claimed to be the first commercial LTE network in South America. The 4G infrastructure has been designed and built based on Alcatel-Lucent’s end-to-end LTE solution, enabling Antel’s subscribers to enjoy advanced wireless services, such as High-Definition (HD) video, high speed data, videoconferencing, online gaming and other applications. Services will initially be available in the capital Montevideo and the resort town of Punta del Este, but will be expanded to other parts of the country in the future
