Ministry to limit SIM ownership?

Under a new draft circular designed to tighten up the regulation of pre-paid SIM ownership, Vietnam’s mobile subscribers will be limited to registering a maximum of three SIMs per wireless operator, VNS reports. At present Vietnam is home to a total of six mobile network operators, namely: military-run Viettel (which absorbed EVN Telecom on 1 January 2012); MobiFone and Vinaphone, both of which are owned by state-owned PTO Vietnam Post and Telecommunication (VNPT); Vietnamobile; CDMA network operator S-Fone; and GTel Mobile (Beeline), part-owed by Russia’s Vimpelcom. This means that under the Ministry of Information and Communications’ (MIC’s) draft regulations, subscribers are permitted to own no more than 18 SIM cards each
