Batelco eyes acquisitions to offset domestic declines

The CEO of Batelco, Sheikh Mohammed bin Isa Al Khalifa, has told Reuters that his company plans to make at least one acquisition in 2012 as it seeks to offset falling domestic revenue. The company, which failed in its attempt to buy a stake in Zain Saudi Arabia last year, has reported declining profits in six of the past seven quarters in the wake of increased competition from rival domestic cellcos, namely Zain Bahrain and Viva. ‘The key is to increase scale,’ said the executive.
