EC raises concerns over ECA’s MTR proposals

The European Commission (EC) has announced that it has put on hold a proposal by the Estonian Competition Authority (ECA) in which the latter seeks to impose what the EC calls ‘some of the highest mobile termination rates (MTRs) in the European Union from mid-2012 until mid-2015’. In revealing its unhappiness with the ECA’s plans, the EC said it was concerned that the pricing methodology used by the Estonian watchdog ‘does not fully follow the method set out in EU telecoms rules’, while claiming that the proposals could lead to ‘durably excessive MTRs and ongoing consumer harm’.
