Softbank announces another LTE deal

The Japanese cellular operator Softbank Mobile has signed its second 4G equipment contract in as many days, inking a deal with Ericsson to build a Long Term Evolution (LTE)-based network in the country’s three largest cities, Tokyo, Osaka and Nagoya, which together account for over half of Japan’s population and around 70% of the country’s total data and voice traffic. As part of the contract Ericsson will upgrade, expand and perform systems integration of Softbank’s existing packet core network to Evolved Packet Core architecture.
