Viettel bags 900MHz licence

Vietnam-backed cellco Viettel Peru has been awarded licences to utilise spectrum in the 900MHz band, having entered a bid of USD48.4 million and pledged to provide 718 institutions with free broadband access for ten years. Viettel has been granted a 20-year concession allowing it use the 899MHz-915MHz and 944MHz-960MHz frequency bands in Lima and Callao, and the 902MHz-915MHz and 947MHz-960MHz ranges for the rest of the country. As part of its bid, Viettel has agreed to provide free broadband access to 718 educational institutions and health facilities to be selected from the nation’s 830 poorest districts.
