3 earmarks 2.3GHz licence for TDD-LTE deployment

Hutchison Telecommunications Hong Kong Holdings (HTHKH) has announced that, following the 2.3GHz licence win by its subsidiary Hutchison Telephone Company (3) yesterday, the additional spectrum will allow it to expand its Long Term Evolution (LTE) frequency division duplex (FDD) network into an FDD/ time division duplex (TDD) dual-mode network over time. As reported in CommsUpdate, 3 successfully bid for a block of 30MHz spectrum for a utilisation fee of HKD150 million (USD19.3 million) alongside China Mobile Hong Kong and 21 ViaNet, in the auction held by Hong Kong’s Office of the Telecommunications Authority (OFTA)
