NCC chair calls for asymmetrical legislation for Chunghwa

Su Herng, chairperson of Taiwan’s National Communications Commission (NCC) has reportedly claimed that issues over Chunghwa Telecom’s pricing and quality of service should be solved through an amendment to the Telecommunications Act, which would help the regulator introduce ‘asymmetrical regulations’ for all operators. According to the Taipei Times, the regulatory amendment would be made with a view to ensuring no telecoms carriers held an unfair advantage over rivals. The NCC executive is understood to have said that the amendment would require that Chunghwa share the use of its network with other telecoms carriers, a move which would remove the historical advantage it has held.
