Nawras aims to boost broadband connectivity

Nawras, Oman’s second national telecoms operator, plans to focus on improving connectivity around the country this year, in a bid to capitalise on the growing demand for data services. The Muscat Daily cites the operator’s CEO Ross Cormack as saying that Nawras will continue to build a number of base stations across the Sultanate during the year to boost broadband coverage. ‘What we are doing is taking advantage of the best technology to provide ever-upgraded services, but the very first thing is to get connectivity to as many people as we can,’ he told reporters, adding that the company currently covers 57% of Oman with its 3G mobile network, as well as 87% of households with a home broadband service.
